The 2 pounder anti tank gun was an excellent piece for its day but it was found a heavier weapon would be needed to deal with the newer German tanks appearing on the battlefield.
The resulting gun was the 6 Pounder ( 57mm ) introduced in the Desert Campaign in April 1942. It saw widespread use worldwide and was also used as a tank gun.
