The Bedford QLR fulfilled the British Armys requirement for a signal/radio command truck. It was based on the QL chassis which was introduced in 1941. The interior furniture, partitioning and radio equipment varied for the different functions. On vehicles installed for the wireless role, a tent could be erected at the rear to give a larger working area.
