The AVRE specialist engineer vehicle was based on the Churchill Mark IV due to that model being superseded as a battle tank by the MK VII. It was armed with the Petard mortar which fired the fearsome 'Flying Dustbin ' bomb that was easily capable of destroying a concrete pillbox. The hard points as the front meant it could be equipped with a variety of attachments such as a mine plough or carpet layers.
