When the 50mm gun of the PAK 38 proved to be inadequate against the latest Soviet tanks the PAK 40 with its 75mm gun was rushed into service in 1942 . Not only was it produced as a towed weapon it also was mounted onto many self propelled carriages such as the Marder series .
